Can I Use My Insurance?
It may be frustrating at the thought of paying for an insurance plan and not being able to utilize that plan to its fullest extent. We are focused on HEALTH care vs SICK care. We do things a bit differently, for a good reason.
At True Health Integrative Medicine, we are out-of-network providers. By not working with insurance companies, we can get to the root of our patient's health concerns more efficiently. We are not confined to the rules of an outside organization preemptively deciding what our patients need and how they should be cared for. We do not order tests based on what is "free" under a particular insurance plan. We do not provide medications based on what costs the least.
We look for answers. In order to find answers, we have to consider alternative methods to what has previously been done. This entails ordering different lab tests, including some tests that insurance doesn't deem "necessary" and will refuse to cover.
Insurance based care is generally a one-size-fits-all approach. That is not our approach.
At True Health Integrative Medicine, we can spend time with patients addressing their concerns, answering their questions and providing education for the best patient outcomes. We offer a wider range of services based on wellness and preventative medicine. We consider all aspects of a patient's health. We are not dictated by insurance companies deciding what blood test patients are "allowed" to have, what diagnosis they need for coverage and how much time a patient can spend with a provider. We can order what is necessary.
With that being said, our office fees for consultation are comparable to insurance plan copays or high deductible plan costs for office visits. Our pricing stays fair.
Many instances, patients prefer to utilize their insurance for lab work. This is possible at our office, but not advised. We order lab work that is necessary to establish a baseline for your health status. The lab values that are ordered for a patient specific consultation are customized to give an accurate assessment of their health. Insurance does not always cover the lab work we order. To avoid insurance denying a claim, resulting in a large bill to the patient, we have low-cost lab work negotiated for an upfront cost. This avoids the potential for insurance denial and a bill that was intended for an insurance company to pay out, that gets redirected to the patient. For example, a Quest comprehensive panel could be priced to an insurance company for $3,000, our upfront cost would be $300. A denial of 1-2 lab values could result in a $500+ bill! A patient may request a super bill for reimbursement if they wish.
When a patient brings lab work from another office, we are happy to review this however under most circumstances, we have to order additional tests. This results in the patients having to do multiple lab draws and delays treatment all while still incurring out of pocket expense.
In summary, health is an investment. Initial lab work up can be a bit expensive for some.- but the insight into your health is invaluable.
