Testosterone Replacement: What is it? Who needs it?
More than 40% of men by the age of 45 years old have "hypogonadism" or low levels of testosterone. This is the condition in which the testes do not produce enough Testosterone. Depending on where you are in the world, this is usually below <300 ng/dl. Hypogonadism can occur due to several reasons like age, stress, diet, endocrine disrupters, genetics, other environmental factors and previous drug use (including steroids). Sleep deprivation can also lower testosterone levels by 15%.
However, one of the most alarming statistics is that American men's average testosterone levels have dropped by 1% yearly since 1980 and only 12% of men receive treatment.
The symptoms of Low Testosterone are as follows:
Fatigue
Decreased Muscle Mass
Depression and Anxiety
Lack of motivation or drive
Reduced memory & cognition
Low libido
Irritability
Increased fat mass
If these symptoms describe you or someone you love, there are solutions!
Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) is a treatment for ”Low T”, or hypogonadism. A male, deficient in testosterone production, will suffer symptoms until they replace the missing testosterone or try to initiate endogenous (stimulate their bodies own mechanism for) testosterone production once again. Our providers at True Health Integrative Medicine can help. We begin with a consultation and lab work to determine your symptoms and testosterone levels-once established and depending on your individual results, you could then become a candidate for testosterone replacement therapy.
